Posts: 106 Jul 23 09 9:28 AM	With the July observation period coming to an end in the next week or so, and the November LOI date fast approaching could one of our recruiting guru's provide summary of where we stand with some of both the well known names and some under the radar guys in which there is serious mutual interest. I'm guessing but i would assume we would be looking to sign 3 players early and look to sign another in the spring. i would love to see some input after the july period winds down.

Posts: 3530 Jul 26 09 12:59 AM	Is an SF that GU has been monitoring since his decommitment from KSU. He is a decent player. Great looking athlete that finishes well and has pretty good handles and passes well also. He can't shoot a lick, so he needs to really work on his shot. He is not at the level of some of the other players that GU is recruiting, but he is a good looking prospect worth monitoring. He is 6'7 (with shoes), and 215(very strong). He reminds me a bit of Solomon Hill from the 09 class. Edited 1 time by balla Jul 26 09 1:02 AM.

Most of our top recruits are in Vegas. I believe Rod Odom is there but do not think his team's game will be televised. ESPNU usually does a bad job with these telecast as it is. Have a lot of fluff feature pieces and pointless interviews with Coaches who can't talk about recruits anyway.

Posts: 27 Jul 26 09 7:22 PM	Watched Team Final down B-more Elite on ESPN U today. Will Barton was impressive. Rakeem Christmas, not so much, but hard to tell cause they didn't show the entire game. Mike Gilchrist = the real deal, but is he a Kentucky lock? C.J. Fair and Dion Waiters are nothing to worry about when they get to Cuse. Both are top 150 players in their class but neither is McD's AA status.

Posts: 1441 Jul 26 09 7:32 PM	Thanks JK! Gilchrist is Dwayne Wade-esque. Yeah he is a Kentucky lean b/c of WWW. Always liked CJ Fair but he's been bogged down by injuries. Not a fan of Waiters. I am licking my chops to beat down on Cuse the next few years. Of course both will have to give a backseat to Dashonte Riley being a "star" . Rakeem Christmas is good at the defensive end for now. we will see how his offensive game develops.

Mitchell knows how to post up on the block but spent more time on the wing. He can shoot it, and opened up this game with a three. He connected on a couple throughout the contest. At times his jump shot looked stiff, but his form is solid, he just needs to relax when shooting. He also took the ball strong to the hoop on several occasions. Mitchell's biggest strengths are his NBA level athleticism and versatility. His leaping ability helped him grab rebounds easily above everyone else on the floor, and contest shots with intimidation. He can guard multiple positions 2s, 3s and 4s at the next level (college) but he looks more comfortable playing on the perimeter. His NBA position is most likely at small forward. He's a coachable kid who plays within himself and the flow of the offense. However, often times he relies on his athleticism on defense and ends up out of position. His body has filled out significantly over the last year, especially in the past 6 months, which is a good sign for his durability."

Posts: 3530 Jul 27 09 10:54 AM	Mitchell is a lousy shooter. That is why people need to watch these players multiple times before assessing their games. You can tell how athletic a player is quickly, but a kid can be hot shooting the ball a couple of games...

Posts: 1441 Jul 27 09 12:43 PM	yeah, his form in the video looks bad. just b/c he hits a 3 does not make him a good shooter. if he is projecting to be a wing in college he will need to be a much more consistent shooter with a better form-- especially if he wants to play in our system.

But he is a guy that physically is just more developed than Jalen/Roscoe/Odom, so right now he looks like a better athlete. But once these other guys put on 20-25 pounds of muscle (which they all will), Mitchell's game has no other advantages. He does have a pretty good feel for the game. But it is really hard to improve wings that can't shoot by the time they get to college. It is fine with bigmen, because they take more time to develop and they can score without being good shooters.

Posts: 3530 Aug 3 09 2:20 PM	Per Scout, add Chris Crawford to the radar. He is from Memphis and the staff watched him a lot in Vegas because he was playing with Kendrick and against Lubick. Obviously there are guys ahead of him on the board, but he is certainly worth monitoring. In the end I'd expect him to stay local, probably UT.
